TIL: Wiktionary defines englobing as the present participle of englobe, meaning “to surround as if by a globe”. It also notes that this term is used almost exclusively in the context of phagocytosis, but I’m mostly just tickled that it’s an anagram of belonging. I’m no poet, but to me this is about as linguistically euphonious as it gets.
To what do you “belong”?
What tribe, what family, what set or genus makes you think “People like us do things like this.”?
Makes you feel seen?
Makes you feel - I daresay - englobed?
Or perhaps your vision of yourself is that of the englob - the the clan-maker, the community-builder, the guild officer - the extender of pseudopodia, er drawing people into the vacuoles of your cytoplasm?
Err…so to speak.
Happy Belonging inDay, folks.
